The Art of Melody: A Pairing Event

The program, The Art of Melody, celebrates the ways in which melodies communicate meaning and take us on narrative journeys far and wide. This concert features tuneful new string quartets telling tales both epic and mundane, from Reena Esmail’s meditative Hindustani style, to Jessie Montgomery’s epic chronicling of the civil rights movement, to Julius Eastman’s breakdown of melody into single vibrating cells. The program will also feature the premiere of a new work by Newark, OH native Ben Shirley, and a commission by our colleague and friend, Griffin Candey.
