Harmonic Visions

Join us in the Green Room of the Short North Stage while we perform on the Johnstone Fund for New Music Series. 

Chamber Brews’ piano trio program, Harmonic Visions, pushes against the limits of western tonal music and breaks beyond its narrow boundaries. Philip Glass, Rebecca Clarke, and Jennifer Higdon fracture these limitations by developing their own harmonic languages: evoking emotion and a unique sense of space. By using one scale to establish a monochrome effect, using artificial scales to directly express emotions, or using the broad brush of pandiatonicism, the composers bend and shape our sense of musical gravity, and use their skill to create new visions of harmony.
